The Cardinal are better than where they’re being ranked.
ESPN’s Football Power Index is a lot higher on Stanford than the polls.
The Cardinal (1-1) dropped to No. 19 in the new AP Poll and Coaches’ Poll following the 42-24 loss to USC on Saturday night.
According to ESPN’s computer, though, David Shaw’s team is still one of the country’s 10 best.
The FPI has the 1-1 Cardinal as the 9th-best team in the nation through two weeks.
It’s understandable that Stanford would drop after losing a game, but it’s clear that the FPI believes the Cardinal will finish the season near the top of the polls.
Also underrated, per the FPI: Ohio State.
The Buckeyes dropped to No. 8 and No. 9 in the new polls but are still, somehow, No. 1 in the Football Power Index.
